Learn more about Thistles Studio
Thank you for visiting my website! You may have seen me on Instagram (or even TikTok) as Thistles Studio- I am Jasmine and I live in Suffolk, England. I am the owner and maker of Thistles Studio and I have been happily running my business since I was 16. I hope you have enjoyed looking at my work and if you would like to find out more about me and my business, then please read on!
Where it all started
I started my business, Thistles Studio in 2017 between finishing my GCSE’s and starting my A-levels. I never knew growing up what I wanted to do career wise. I studied Business, Art and Geography at A-level but decided university was not for me! I came to the decision of making Thistles Studio my full-time job before sitting my exams. I have always loved art and being creative. I wanted to combine my two favourite things, art and the countryside to create a business I am passionate about and reflects the two things I love the most.
I originally started creating my products using feathers, which I collected from our chickens and ornamental pheasants, kept on our smallholding. I started just making feather hatpins/brooches. However, I had so many different ideas for products that I continued to practice making new items which I soon perfected ready to sell them in my shop. In 2020 I started working with dried and artificial flowers to create wreaths and I decided that this was the direction I wanted to take my business in.
I have been creating dried flower wreaths for the past 4 years, sourcing my dried flowers from a local wholesaler. In 2023 I decided I wanted to grow the flowers that I use to create my wreaths so, I put a polytunnel up on the farm and got sowing. I think it is so important to know where your flowers are coming from which is why I decided to grow my own. I have learnt so much about the growing and drying process of flowers, and I am always experimenting with different colours and varieties.
Our products
I absolutely love creating new products, and I'm inspired by the fact that no two flowers are the same! Lots of my dried flower wreaths are one of a kind, and I think this makes them extra special. I really enjoy foraging for some materials and using what's in season to create my wreaths.
Growing my own flowers for my small business has been such an amazing experience and I have so many big plans and ideas for the future.
Our Materials
Most of the flowers used to make my dried flower creations have been grown on my small flower field in Suffolk, UK. If I have not grown them myself, I have either foraged for flowers and foliage around the farm or they have been locally sourced.
Once the flowers have been picked fresh, I hang them to naturally air dry in my work room. This process takes a few weeks, but the results are worth it. Once they are completely dry, I take them down and store them ready to use.
The best part about running a creative business
What I enjoy most about running Thistles Studio is knowing that the customers who have purchased are as happy with their products as I was making them! I look forward to getting in my poly tunnel and studio each morning to create something new and unique. I love sharing my ideas and products on my social media platforms and engaging with my very supportive community of followers. Knowing I have a day of crafting ahead of me, is one thing that makes me very happy!
